Apple Music: 25th anniversary feature embeds working iPod replica
Visitors to music.apple.com can now interact with a digital version of the 2001 device to play 90-second audio previews.

Apple launched the original iPod on October 23, 2001. Twenty-five years later, the company has added an interactive replica of that device to its online music store.
A user named Kian discovered the feature on the X platform. It appears on music.apple.com when a visitor requests a nonexistent page, such as music.apple.com/ipod.
Instead of displaying a standard error message, the browser loads a visual copy of the first-generation iPod. The digital hardware responds to user input in the same way the physical product did.
Clicking the on-screen buttons allows users to navigate through a playlist. Users can also click and drag the scroll wheel to browse the track list.
The playlist includes songs by artists who were prominent in 2001. Selecting a track plays a 90-second preview directly in the web interface. No additional software or app is required to hear the audio.
Apple has not manufactured a standalone music player in recent years. The web feature serves as a commemorative element for the device's anniversary. There is no public information indicating plans for a new hardware release. Apple Music subscription services continue to cost $11.99 per month.
