Austin Reaves handed his signature headband to a spectator behind the Los Angeles Lakers bench with 1:43 remaining in Sunday's game against the Toronto Raptors. The gesture signaled the 6-foot-5 guard's intent to remain on the sidelines for the final stretch of the contest.

The plan unraveled quickly. With the Lakers' reserves on the floor, their lead shrank from 15 points to single digits in under 20 seconds. Jaden Bradley converted an and-1 layup to cut the Raptors' deficit to six points with 44 seconds left on the clock.

Coach JJ Redick responded by calling his primary rotation back into the game. Reaves, Matisse Thybulle, Walker Kessler, and Luka Doncic all entered the match with 44 seconds remaining to secure the win.

Reaves had to retrieve his headband from the fan to rejoin the action. The source notes the fan appeared to have no issues returning the item. The Lakers held off the Raptors to win 131-125, improving their record to 5-2.

Redick stated he would avoid making the same substitution error in future late-game scenarios. The coaching change suggests Reaves will keep his gear on his head until the final whistle in subsequent games.
