Maggiano's Little Italy has secured the former Brio Italian Grille location at Crabtree Valley Mall in Raleigh. The acquisition positions the chain for its second North Carolina entry, following its existing presence at Streets at Southpoint in Durham. No specific opening date has been announced for the new venue, which focuses on large, family-style portions.

Simultaneously, Millie's Homemade Ice Cream is preparing to open its first North Carolina location at 325 Blake St. in Raleigh's City Market district. The Pittsburgh-based franchise aims to launch before the end of the year. Its site is adjacent to Blackbird Books and Coffee, a placement that targets the high-foot-traffic area around the neighborhood's commercial core.

South Block, a Charlotte-based operator with three existing locations, is expanding into the Raleigh market. The brand, known for acai bowls and smoothies, plans to open at 4121 Main at North Hills St. next to bartaco. In the surrounding Apex area, Grain & Berry recently opened its second North Carolina location at 2017 Creekside Landing Drive in Beaver Creek Crossings, following its initial launch in Holly Springs.

The Michelin Guide American South announced new designations for three Triangle restaurants during a ceremony in Nashville on Wednesday. Ajja in Raleigh, Ideal's in Durham, and Tesoro in Carrboro each received the Bib Gourmand honor. Tesoro operates as an 18-seat, pasta-focused establishment. Prime Barbecue, Mala Pata, and Sam Jones BBQ retained their Bib Gourmand status from the previous year.

Sixteen other establishments in the region maintained their Michelin recommended listings. These include Brewery Bhavana, Poole's, Stanbury, and The Fearrington House Restaurant. The recognition serves as a market signal for fine dining and specialized cuisine within the Raleigh-Durham-Chapel Hill area.

In Durham, M Kikkei, formerly known as M Pocha, is set to hold an invitation-only soft opening on October 24. The grand opening is scheduled for October 29 at 101 E. Chapel Hill St. The restaurant specializes in Nikkei cuisine, which combines Japanese techniques with Peruvian ingredients, and represents the seventh concept in the Mpire group. In Pittsboro, Tavolo Italian Eatery opened in MOSAIC at Chatham Park, while Gandy Coffee House is expected to open in early 2027 at 14 N. Small St.

The local food calendar includes several fundraising events. The inaugural Chapel Hill Biscuit Festival will take place on October 25 at American Legion Post 6. VIP entry begins at 2 p.m., and general admission starts at 3 p.m. Proceeds from the event will benefit SECU Family House at UNC Hospitals. On November 5, the Chefs for Change Gala & Auction at The Cookery will raise funds for Families Moving Forward.

The third Rawleigh Oyster Fest, themed "Smoke & Shuck," is scheduled for November 7 at Raleigh Iron Works. Organizers introduced a $60 Half Shell ticket that includes nine oysters, two bites, and one drink to address pricing concerns from previous attendees. The last two editions of the event sold out and collectively raised approximately $12,500. The event will feature North Carolina pitmasters for the first time.

The Trophy Trot 5K returns for its tenth year at Dix Park on November 26. Last year, nearly 3,000 participants signed up, and the race donated about $60,000 to Healing Transitions, an increase from the $42,000 raised the previous year. The Food Bank is also marking Tackling Hunger Month, noting that more than 600,000 neighbors in the region are not always sure where their next meal will come from. The organization states that every $25 in donations provides 75 meals.
