Google Redesigns Gemini Android Sidebar and Merges Settings
A server-side update limits the chat list to five visible items and consolidates all preferences into a single page.

Google is updating the Gemini app for Android devices.
The change arrives through a server-side rollout. Users do not need to download a new version of the app to see the update.
The side panel now displays only five recent chats. A "More" option appears at the bottom of the list. Tapping it expands the remaining conversations.
For AI Ultra subscribers, the expanded list includes New chat, Library, Images, Scheduled, Daily brief, Customize, Students, Videos, and Gems. The search function has moved to the top-right corner. The Library entry now sits directly below New chat, a position it previously did not hold.
Google has also reorganized the settings menu. Preferences that were previously split between the account menu and a separate settings area are now on one page. The account menu is now limited to switching accounts, leaving feedback, or getting help.
The new settings page starts with Manage account and Usage limits. A Preferences section follows. It includes Notifications, Personal Intelligence, Avatar, Task settings, Theme, Skills, Voice, Media, Device controls, Cart and orders, and Gemini Notebook. Theme is the only entry marked as new in this section.
Two other sections complete the page. Data and privacy contains Import memory, Contact info from your devices, Gemini Apps Activity, Your public links, and the Privacy Help Hub. A Get support section lists Help, Report a problem, About, and Updates.
Similar changes reached iOS, macOS, and web users last week. That rollout coincided with the launch of Gemini 4 Argon. Android users are now seeing the update more broadly.
Recent app developments also include Gemini Notebook becoming a Connected App. Free users are moving to Auto models as the app adds thinking levels. A new Map tool is available, and the slash shortcut has been replaced by an at sign.
The update follows the recent change from Spark to Task. It is part of a series of modifications to the Gemini interface.
