Anthropic submitted its initial public offering paperwork on Monday, aiming to sell shares to the public for the first time. The San Francisco company seeks to raise as much as $100 billion US, a figure that would surpass the $86 billion raised by SpaceX in June. This move positions the startup for a Wall Street debut next month on the Nasdaq Global Select Market under the ticker symbol ANT.

The filing reveals that while revenue is increasing, the company remains deeply in the red. Anthropic reported a net loss of $80.7 billion US in the first half of 2026. This loss is a substantial increase from the $13 billion US deficit recorded in the same period a year earlier. The 335-page document outlines these financials to investors as the company prepares to go public.

Private investors valued Anthropic at $965 billion US earlier this year. Reports suggest the final valuation could climb to $1.5 trillion or even $2 trillion, though the exact figure is not yet set. At $1.5 trillion, the company would rank among the world's most valuable public entities, comparable to Tesla. The capital raise could significantly increase the personal wealth of CEO Dario Amodei and his sister, co-founder Daniela, by billions of dollars.

The IPO filing arrives weeks after Dario Amodei published an essay arguing for a slower pace in developing the most advanced AI models. In that piece, he warned that advanced artificial intelligence could pose an existential threat to humanity. The company now moves to raise capital while balancing this cautionary outlook with the need for rapid expansion.

An Anthropic listing would also place it ahead of rival OpenAI in the public markets. Analysts expect both companies to launch blockbuster stock debuts in close succession. The resources from the sale are intended to accelerate Anthropic's growth and infrastructure buildout.

The company's five-year history of rapid scaling is detailed in the regulatory documents. The final offering price and total amount raised remain uncertain until the sale closes. The process will determine whether Anthropic eclipses SpaceX to become the largest IPO in history.
