BYD is preparing to launch a new top-tier electric sedan in the Middle East.
Hu Xiaoqing, the general manager of BYD's Yangwang brand, confirmed this week that the vehicle will make its global debut in the United Arab Emirates. The company has not yet announced a specific day for the event. The car is expected to be revealed in October 2026.
BYD has expanded its product range over the last several years. The manufacturer now sells vehicles across multiple price points, from small hatchbacks to large SUVs. The Seagull, a compact model, costs less than $10,000 in China. Yangwang operates at the highest end of this hierarchy. Earlier models in this line used a four-motor system that produces 1,300 horsepower. They also featured a body control system that allowed the car to jump or drive on three wheels.
Images of the new sedan appeared last month. The vehicle was covered in camouflage, but its size matched that of the Rolls-Royce Phantom. Local reports indicate the car measures roughly 5,500 millimeters, or 216 inches, in length. Zheng Yu, the executive general manager of Yangwang, said the model will use disruptive technology. He did not provide further details on the specifications.
The sedan was spotted at a BYD Flash Charging station. This suggests the car will support high-speed charging. It features rear-hinged doors, a design choice BYD has not used before. Reports indicate it will be the first model to use solid-state batteries. Stella Li, BYD's executive vice president, told Carwow.es last month that the first vehicle with this battery type would appear in 2027.
Rumored pricing places the sedan in the 2 million yuan range. This equals approximately $300,000. This price point sits well above the current Yangwang lineup. The U7 sedan starts at 658,000 yuan, or $98,000. The U8L plug-in hybrid SUV is currently the most expensive mass-produced vehicle in the brand, starting at 1.45 million yuan, or $217,000.
