Four individuals sustained injuries in a drive-by shooting that occurred outside a licensed venue in Loganholme, a suburb south of Brisbane. Queensland police reported that officers were dispatched to the location at 8:15 p.m. on Saturday evening following multiple reports of gunfire. The vehicle responsible for the shooting was observed fleeing the scene, and the four wounded parties were transported to a local hospital for medical evaluation and treatment.
The incident took place at Fitzys Loganholme on Bryants Road, which was hosting the Logan City Titles Fight Night. Deputy Commander Chris Stream of Queensland police described the aftermath as confronting during an interview with the Today show. He confirmed that several people had suffered gunshot wounds, highlighting the severity of the event for those present at the venue.
Jon Raven, the mayor of Logan, expressed concern over the impact of the shooting on the local community. He stated that residents were frightened and that the event had sent a shockwave through the area. Raven noted that residents had not previously experienced an incident of this nature in Logan. He extended his thoughts to the victims, the staff members, and all attendees, emphasizing the personal toll such an event takes on a tight-knit neighborhood.
Raven recalled attending similar boxing nights in the past, describing them as family-friendly environments where many children were present. He suggested that the experience would leave a lasting impression on the young attendees. The mayor explained that the night was specifically organized to help steer children away from violence. He noted that the event organizer was known for using boxing to empower and reconnect young people who might otherwise be struggling, making the incident particularly painful for the organizer.
In a statement posted on social media on Sunday morning, the Logan City Titles team expressed their heartbreak over the incident. The organizers described the event as a community showcase for local talent and hard work within the ring. They asserted that such incidents have no place in the boxing community or the broader public sphere. The statement underscored the disconnect between the intended atmosphere of the event and the violence that unfolded outside.
As of the latest reports, the offenders remain at large. Queensland police indicated that they did not believe there was an ongoing threat to the general public. Authorities have urged anyone with information regarding the shooting to come forward and make contact with the police to assist in their investigation.
