Tara and Ben Wegdam opened the doors to their newest home goods store on Francis Street in downtown Annapolis on Thursday. The shop marks the couple’s second location in Anne Arundel County and serves as the sixth store in their growing network of Creme de la Creme boutiques.

The Wegdams started the business in Middleburg, Virginia, in 2000. Since then, they have expanded their footprint by seeking out locations with high foot traffic and strong community ties. Ben Wegdam described the downtown Annapolis site as the perfect spot for the brand, citing the area’s consistent activity and diverse population.

Tara Wegdam noted that the neighborhood attracts visitors for various reasons while also housing a resident population that fits the store’s concept. The shop focuses on personalized decor that blends French and Italian styles with Southern hospitality. She pointed out that no similar store was already operating in the area, which helped drive the decision to expand there.

The new location operates as part of a coordinated system where all stores share best practices. Ben Wegdam explained that managers from every location hold weekly calls to discuss product trends and merchandise management. This collaborative approach allows the team to adapt quickly when a high-potential site like the Annapolis storefront becomes available.

The grand opening attracted both new visitors and loyal customers. Tara Wegdam highlighted the value of meeting new shoppers while also reconnecting with regulars. She noted that one long-time customer wore Creme de la Creme apparel to the event, demonstrating the brand’s presence beyond just home decor. Some residents mentioned that the new store arrived at the right time because they had recently moved to the area.

The addition of the Annapolis store contributes to a wider trend of business growth in the region. The Anne Arundel Economic Development Corporation reported that nearly 60 new or expanding businesses joined the local economy in May and June of this year. The Wegdams’ latest opening joins that roster, adding another retail option for residents and visitors in the county.
