Apple releases iOS 27.1 for iPhone Duo only
Apple has updated the iPhone Duo with iOS 27.1, but left other models on 27.0.1

Apple has released iOS 27.1, but only for the new iPhone Duo. The update was made available over the air on the night before October 23. Users of other iPhone models will not see iOS 27.1 when they check for software updates in Settings.
Apple has moved most iPhones directly to iOS 27.2. This means that iOS 27.1 was kept separate for the Duo. The latest beta version of iOS 27.2 is set to reach all users next week.
iOS 27.2 includes new features like Suggested Actions in Messages, a new app icon and design for Apple Music, and user profiles in Apple TV. Apple Podcasts gets an overhauled Up Next queue, and Siri AI will support more languages.
The reasons for the split appear to be tied to secrecy and engineering. Apple was able to keep much of the information about the iPhone Duo under wraps by skipping a beta cycle for iOS 27.1.
Managing the new features of the Duo was likely simpler without other iPhone models or unrelated new features in the mix. Owners of other iPhones will not see iOS 27.1 at all, since it was never intended for their devices.
