American Formula 1 fans will hear the race from a new angle this weekend. Apple TV subscribers can now stream United States Grand Prix coverage with Dolby Atmos audio. The upgrade began on Friday, October 23, making this the first Formula 1 race ever broadcast in this format.

Apple and Dolby Laboratories announced the partnership earlier in October. The companies said the technology would enhance the viewing experience by capturing sound from all directions. This includes team radio chatter, commentary, and engine noise.

Apple stated that the surround sound aims to place viewers in the center of the action. The audio mix covers on-track battles and pit lane activity. The company noted that combining this audio with Dolby Vision visuals provides a clear and immersive picture.

The race weekend is already underway. First practice concluded on Friday morning. Subscribers can still watch the remaining sessions. Practice 2 is scheduled for 5 p.m. ET on Friday, October 23. Practice 3 starts at 1:30 p.m. ET on Saturday, October 24. Qualifying follows at 5 p.m. ET on the same day.

The main race will take place on Sunday, October 25, at 4 p.m. ET. Apple is hosting a live screening of the event at its Domain NORTHSIDE store in Austin, Texas. The store also hosted Apple CEO John Ternus and retail chief Deirdre O'Brien on Friday for the iPhone Duo launch.

Apple updated its mapping services to support the event. The company expanded its Detailed City Experience to Austin. This includes a new map of the Circuit of The Americas. The map features turn numbers, grandstands, and 3D landmarks to help visitors navigate the venue.

Apple TV costs $14.99 per month. It is also available as part of the Apple One bundle. The service carries other titles such as Ted Lasso, Severance, and The Morning Show.
