Milwaukee Brewers fans are one win from a championship after the club beat the Tampa Bay Rays 10-1 in Game 3 on October 27, taking a 3-0 edge in the best-of-seven World Series. The Brewers also hold a 7-0 record across the NLCS and World Series combined; a Game 4 victory would make them 8-0, a first in MLB history.
The Brewers collected 16 hits and 10 runs, with Tampa Bay managing three hits and one run. Milwaukee scored eight runs in the fifth inning alone. The Rays' lone run came in the ninth on two hits with the game already decided.
Milwaukee opened the scoring when Jackson Chourio lined a single to start the game. He added singles in his second and third at-bats, then doubled during the fifth-inning surge. That double left his bat at 99 mph, and he finished with four hits, two runs and one RBI through five innings. Tampa Bay had one hit and no runs through eight innings.
Chourio, 22, became the youngest player to record a four-hit World Series game since Joe Garagiola did it in 1946. He is batting .571 in the series at 8-for-14. He has two home runs in the postseason and three steals in the World Series, including one in Game 3. In Game 2, he threw out a Rays runner at home plate.
Manager Pat Murphy said no one around the club is shocked by the performance. "Nobody's surprised that Jack Jack's doing this. Nobody's surprised. He's turning into, 20, 21, 22, he's turning into a fine player. He's understanding what it takes, the discipline that it takes. He's coming into his own. Nobody's shocked. He's just really, really good," Murphy said after Game 3.
Chourio spoke to his approach at the plate. "Yeah, I think that you could say this is one of my better games," he said. "Really, I was just taking every at-bat like it could be my last and trying to find any way I could to get on base. Because I know, as long as I get on base, there's guys behind me who could score."
Injury limited Chourio to 127 games this season, and he still posted 4.9 WAR. He has reached 20 home runs and 20 steals in three seasons. His contract with Milwaukee runs through 2031, with two club options covering 2022 through 2033.
The Brewers can close out the series in Game 4. The Rays have not scored since a four-run first inning in Game 2, which Milwaukee won 5-4.
