The Memphis Grizzlies defeated the Utah Jazz 110-105 on Monday night in Salt Lake City. This result gave Memphis its second victory against Utah in their last four matchups.
Cedric Coward led the Grizzlies with 16 points and 11 rebounds. Ty Jerome scored 15 points on 4-of-15 shooting and added eight assists. Jaylen Wells contributed 14 points, while Cameron Boozer and Jerami Grant each scored 13 points. For the Jazz, Keyonte George had 26 points. Ace Bailey recorded 17 points and 10 rebounds, and Darryn Peterson and Mo Bamba each added 14 points. Bamba made his season debut in the game.
Utah played most of the contest without two of its top three scorers. Lauri Markkanen and Jaren Jackson Jr. both sustained injuries early in the first half and did not return to the floor. Jerome had previously scored 45 points against Utah in the season opener.
Memphis established a 16-point lead late in the third quarter. Quinten Post, Cam Spencer, and Coward each made three-pointers on consecutive possessions to push the Grizzlies ahead 87-71. The Jazz responded with a 15-3 run in the fourth quarter to narrow the gap. George hit a three-point play with 3:37 remaining to make the score 102-101. Jerome then scored on back-to-back baskets to prevent Utah from taking the lead.
Bamba cut the deficit to one point with a dunk at 1:01 left. Wells and Jerome converted free throws in the final minute to seal the win for Memphis. The Grizzlies will play at Portland on Thursday night, while the Jazz will host San Antonio on Wednesday night.
