A 43-year-old New Rochelle resident now faces a class C violent felony charge for possessing a loaded firearm while driving the wrong way under the influence of alcohol. The arrest stemmed from a traffic stop that began when an officer noticed the vehicle moving against the flow of traffic on Division Street.
New Rochelle Police responded to the scene at approximately 4:00 a.m. on Sunday, October 25, 2026. The officer observed Jamell Green operating the vehicle in the wrong direction. During the subsequent traffic stop, the officer determined that Green was intoxicated. The suspect was taken into custody without any reported physical incident.
Following the arrest, the officer conducted a search of Green’s person. The search revealed a loaded firearm in his possession. This discovery led to the filing of additional charges related to his possession of the weapon and its state of readiness for use.
Green is charged with two unclassified misdemeanors under the state Vehicle and Traffic Law: driving while intoxicated and operating a motor vehicle with a blood alcohol content of 0.08 percent or higher. He also faces a class A misdemeanor for criminal possession of a weapon in the fourth degree and a class E felony for criminal possession of a firearm.
The most serious charge against Green is criminal possession of a loaded firearm in the second degree. This offense is classified as a class C violent felony under the New York Penal Law. The charges combine the traffic violation with the specific circumstances of the weapon found during the stop.
