A new Marist Poll released on Tuesday places New York Governor Kathy Hochul 11 points ahead of her challenger. The survey shows Hochul leading Republican Bruce Blakeman 53% to 42% in the race for the state's top executive office. This margin places the incumbent in a strong position with Election Day arriving tomorrow.
Blakeman, the current Nassau County executive, rejected the numbers. He stated that the poll undersampled Republican voters. Blakeman argued the actual gap is smaller than the data suggests, maintaining his campaign's claim that the contest is closer.
The candidates split their time between different parts of New York City on Monday. Hochul appeared in Midtown with members of the Hotel and Gaming Trades Council. She cited high early voting turnout as a positive indicator for her party.
Blakeman focused his efforts on the Upper East Side. He continued his attack on congestion pricing, a traffic policy he promises to remove if he wins the governorship. This issue remains a central part of his platform as he seeks to peel away suburban and urban voters.
Hochul is scheduled to sign a bill regulating chatbots for children this morning. Blakeman plans to hold additional campaign events later in the day. Both campaigns are working to mobilize supporters in the final 24 hours before voters head to the polls.
The governor's contest is the most watched race on the New York ballot. With the poll released on Tuesday, the data offers a final snapshot of voter sentiment before the election concludes.
