Stony Brook Clinches CAA Playoff Berth

Stony Brook women’s soccer players locked in a postseason berth on Sunday after defeating Northeastern 2-0 at Kenneth P. LaValle Stadium. The result guarantees the Seawolves a place in the CAA Women’s Soccer Championship. The match concluded with the team holding a two-goal lead.

Two penalty kicks determined the final score. Emily Lemke opened the scoring in the 27th minute after a foul inside the box. She struck a right-footed shot into the upper right corner. Later in the 83rd minute, Maya Corbett earned a second spot-kick opportunity for the Seawolves. Lisa Muller took the shot and converted to extend the lead.

The contest featured aggressive play and physical contact. Officials issued three yellow cards as the teams committed 16 fouls in the first half. The defensive effort kept the Huskies from finding the net throughout the match. Jona Hennings faced limited shots on goal during the 45-minute halves.

Hennings made key saves to preserve the clean sheet. She turned away a shot early in the second half to maintain the lead. She also stopped attempts in the closing moments to secure the victory. The Seawolves now prepare for their final regular-season game.

The team travels to Hofstra on Nov. 1 for its last match of the season. A win in that contest will improve Stony Brook's positioning for the upcoming postseason. The squad enters that game with a guaranteed spot in the championship.
